At The Pier Geelong, we are always looking for ways to grow our knowledge and educate our staff in all aspects of events. While our stunning venue speaks for itself, our amazing food and beverages are certainly another amazing element to The Pier Geelong experience.
This week our sales team were lucky enough to be treated to an exclusive private session on all things wine with the EMC Group’s own resident vino aficionado (and Baveras manager
extraordinaire), Mr Paul West.
‘Westy’ as he’s affectionately known to all of the staff at EMC (and the wider Geelong community) took the team on a journey from ‘grapevine to table’, explaining everything from pronunciation, colour, aroma and taste of different wines, through to the processes of maturation and fermentation.
While most of us regularly enjoy a glass (or two!) of our favourite drop and would consider ourselves fairly knowledgeable, the session was informative and eye opening.
Did you know that the type of glass used to drink your wine will dictate where on the tongue the beverage will hit, therefore altering the taste?! Amazing! OR that sparkling/Champagne’s fermentation process takes place in each individual bottle rather than in barrels like red and white wines?
So much to learn, so little time…. Which is why this session was just number one of many on our events team’s journey to become wine experts!
