March 8th marks International Women’s Day which is a global event celebrating the achievements of women everywhere.

What some people may not know, is that this is a National holiday, celebrated by countries such as Afghanistan, Russia, Nepal and China. The Pier Geelong recognises that the day primarily symbolises equality, but also unity and action.

We touched base with our Group Sales Manager Tennille McInnes and asked about her thoughts on International Women’s Day, along with finding out about the women in her life that she looks to for inspiration. Side note – Tennille is a true inspiration herself, a meticulous and organised multi tasker, working with our corporate and wedding clients here at The Pier Geelong. On the home front Tennille is a proud mum to her 3 children… plus #1 fan and support of her husband Joel of Mik Maks fame!

What does International Woman’s Day mean to you?
It is a day to really celebrate the achievements of women of all ages from all over the world.

Can you name a women in your work place that has been a mentor or inspiration? why?
All the women who work at the EMC Group inspire me in different ways.   They are extremely passionate about what they do and are always striving for greatness.

My manager, Gillian is also an incredible support to me. She challenges me to strive for better. I also very much value her guidance on a personal level, especially when it comes to family life.

If you could have dinner with any woman – living or passed, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
I wish I could meet my grandmother on my father’s side. Unfortunately, she passed way before I was born. She lead a very challenging life as her husband passed away in a tragic train accident when my father was only 5 years old. I would love to hear her stories on life and have the opportunity to say how much I admire her strength.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for women in 2019?
The ability to manage it all well. Career, family, friends, our interests and most importantly time for ourselves. It is such a huge balancing act. The reality is that we can’t do it all perfectly, but we do need to prioritize our own mental well-being and physical health.
