It’s a real wedding story that took years to fall into place, but as they say – great things come to those who wait…
Diana & Giuseppe met at a mutual friend’s 21st birthday, but it took them 8 years to cross paths again and when they finally did Diana tried to set Giuseppe up with one of her friends! Diana said she luckily fell in love with Giuseppe before he took her friend on a date.
Diana knew within the first few week of dating him that she would marry Giuseppe. “I love spending time with him so much and the way that he makes me feel. Everything is better when he is with me… I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.”
The proposal came just after the couple took a trip to Sri Lanka. Diana described it as the most incredible holiday and recalls telling Giuseppe not to propose to her on the beach with a big love heart. Opting for something more intimate, Giuseppe waiting until they had gotten home from the trip. The moment came as they were laying in bed listening to Annie’s Song – John Denver, he told her she was his whole world and asked Diana to marry him.
Diana & Giuseppe agreed early in the wedding planning process that they wanted delicious food, spirits and a brilliant band to be the focus of their wedding. They wanted their wedding to feel elegant and beautiful, and for their guests to have a lot of fun celebrating their love. They had a full room of fairy lights, perfectly complemented with leafy green and white florals and a beautiful flower canopy over the dance floor – styling that we still remember so fondly here at The Pier.
The couple kept a longstanding family tradition going as they got married in the same church Diana’s parents, her brother and sister-in law and both sets of grandparents got married in. Diana walked down the aisle to Sweet Disposition, by Temper Trap and recalled her favourite memory of the day as the moment she walked down the aisle and saw her soon-to-be husband in tears, completely overwhelmed with love in front of all of their closest friends and family. A moment made that much sweeter by the fact that Diana’s nonna, who had terminal cancer and was not expected to make it to the wedding, was there for the couple’s special day.
Diana’s advice to couple’s planning their wedding is the earlier you start planning the better! Though she also says that even the most organised of brides can find themselves writing their speech on the way to the wedding or while having their hair and makeup done. Reflecting on her own wedding day, Diana said “It didn’t matter that I had been planning for ages, that I had booked things in months before… No matter how much time you put into the planning, some things HAVE to be done right at the end and these things take AGES! So do yourself a favour and have at least one week off beforehand! There are so many unexpected things that crop up just before a wedding that you haven’t even thought could be a problem and then BOOM! So try and always remember that you are marrying the love of your life and that’s what its all about.”
The couple also left us with some excellent words of wisdom – “Try and be as present as possible and take a few moments to just stop and take heed of what’s happening around you. If you are speaking to your friends, family, someone from the venue, really try and remember the conversations, the dancing, the smell of the flowers, the taste of the cake…everything. I tried really hard to take moments where I could to look around and commit so much of the day to my memory.”
